Use this thread to talk about anything game-related. For away games, we'll have a separate travel thread.

It'll be interesting to see how Ohio matches up with Kent's big 2 - Rob Whaley and Delrecco Gillespie. Whaley is a load at around 290 lbs. and single-handily (27 pts, 14 reb) brought Kent back against Miami before they lost in OT. He was a big h.s. recruit who went to UNLV for 2 years before leaving for Kent. Gillespie has progressed from a little-used player who averaged about 3 pts a game his first two years at Kent, to 8 pts last year to 20 pts and a nation-leading 12 rebounds this year. Simmons can match up physically with either one of them but I'm not sure about Hadaway. And we know Boals' aversion to playing Simmons and Breath at the same time.

That Miami OT loss must have really taken a toll on the high scoring Flashes as they struggled mightly in their next game in double OT to score 75 in their narrow win at Eastern. Wonder how the Yipsilanti bunch held them in check; warn out, just cold or special defense?

With Jeff Boals at the helm, Kent has nothing to worry about. Boat races all around people.

What are the chances this game is even played tomorrow? And Saturday is AT Buffalo.

Boals has to finish 5-5 to stay above .500

Which would give us 16 wins in back-to-back seasons. Not great.

I don't think they're gonna fire an alum who has never had a below .500 season, but he's on the hot seat, and it's getting warmer. Next year if they start slow...

That said - we're still playing for three days in Cleveland. Currently we're sitting at 5 vs 4 Toledo. Same as last season. Get hot and make a run. Or we're looking for trouble in 2027.

Shouldn't be any problem, will be a full 48 hours after it stopped snowing. I would expect highways to be mostly back to normal by this evening.

University announced we are not reopening again until Wednesday. At my house we just had a fresh inch or two of new snow in the last few hours.

The world of Academia in 2026 is in a league of it's own when it comes to taking any opportunity to cancel anything. D1 sporting events rarely get canceled. Every year there are a dozen "snow days" everywhere but little if any games canceled. Literally no reason not to play this game tonight.

Anyway, we are 6.5 point underdogs. I am sure most here would place the line into the double digits if tasked with it themselves.

Delrecco Gilespie a rare 4 year player at Kent is 3rd in the MAC in scoring and tops in rebounding with a lofty 12.4 RPG. I imagine Hadaway & Simmons are quite familiar with him with their experience in the MAC. Need to limit him to have a chance, and it would be wonderful if we could maybe hit some threes???

This team is making no run in Cleveland. Our athleticism is off the charts bad even by MAC standards.

And even if we don't lose any possible returning guys to the portal, we already will be losing over 60% of the scoring, 50% of the rebounds, 77% of the assists, 75% of the steals, 74% of 3 pointers made... who thinks two more Reynoldsburg guys plus a few more portal scrubs can make up that difference?

Welcome to next years dead-man-walking Boals season unless the plug is pulled sooner.

Our only chances of winning tonight are if Pavs has a career game, Conners comes in a shoots the lights out from three like against NIU, and Captain Chaos is on his anger management meds! ;-)

For anyone who grew up in NE Ohio, this was just a normal snow. 50 and 77 have been clear for 24 hours. Going forward this week, the am wind chills will be the bigger concern. Now had the game been last night, there is a chance that it would have been postponed a night unless the team did what high school teams do and drive to the game the day of the game.

racing a boat has nothing to do with basketball. akron should be in the top 25. miami is getting the short end of the stick in the polls.they should be ranked higher than 24-25. THEY should be about 16 or so.

Miami would lose by 85 to every team in the Top 15.

Miami is ranked about where they should be. Undefeated looks good, but they have only played the #287 ranked SOS this season.

And only beaten 4 teams with a winning record (and they are all MAC teams)

Somewhere along the way someone told Hadaway he's Tony Campbell on offense. He's not. He should be a rich man's Treg Setty and he isn’t.

Seniors (Hadaway, Shedlon, Conners) 0-3 from 3; freshmen (Kelly, Burris) 3-6.

I've been saying that all year about Breath. Rarely anything positive comes from throwing the ball inside to him. At least he went 2 for 2 from the line (first time this year?).

Gotta love Sheldon‘s shot selection. It is horrible.
But his defense is great

I feel like someone needs to sit our entire team down and give them the Patrick Ewing treatment.

https://youtu.be/E5X7lBp03uM?si=ykj5apbBCCJ_Qjlk

Also, his great defense is a complete myth. The 2 steals he averages a game are completely overshadowed by getting bullied in the paint, playing out of position and getting burnt to the basket.

"Myth" is the exact word I was going to use when it comes to Sheldon being strong on defense.
