Not sure how I feel about this...would like to see our superior band and style stand on it's own as a direct contrast to OSU's "normal" style. 😁

I imagine OSU’s band will be leaving the stick up their butts

When Jon Woods retired as band director, OSU changed their style from traditional marching, like the 110, to using animation props.

Now OSU is very similar in style to a Bands of America high school program.

Traditional marching requires more skill and its easier to spot mistakes. The 110's shows rely on the talent of their members, not "tricks" .

I follow Drum Corps. Everyone I know who follows drum corps rates the skill required for the 110's style superior to OSU.

This year OSU even switched when the play their signature "Hang on Sloopy"
from the stat of the fourth quarter.
Has caused a bit of griping among their fans.

Whatever happened to good old fashioned competition? Last week the coaches even joked about battle of the bands because they knew the game would not be competitive. Now we're just gonna roll over and allow them to water down our superior product? This is clearly a publicity stunt aimed at getting clicks.

Maybe I'm the crazy one? Am I the only one who is not looking to make friends this weekend? lol

There will be a postgame show for them to “battle” 😀

The OSUMB members attempting a 110 dance does intrigue me. I’ve heard they’ve already had to make a couple dance moves easier. 😂

Watched both half time and postgame on YouTube.

Both bands looked very good and did a bit of what they do best.

From what I could tell on line, the OSSU fans were respectful and appreciative of
the 110's style.

The OSU boomer sitting behind me was not amused. “That’s not marching” and comments like that throughout.

But overall it did seem well received.

Dispatch now reporting it. Although, the Ohio Spokesperson is flat out wrong on the housing. They told the 110 members to find their own housing Friday night. Some members were from Columbus and could crash at home or with friends. Others were housed by Olentangy Orange HS band families. I kind of question some of the other figures and who paid for them.

Why did Ohio University’s Marching 110 sit in C Deck during the Ohio State football game?

Care to give us non-subscribers the scoop? This is starting to get more buzz than the game did. I was up in the c deck and liked the band up there with us. OSU sent their pledges way up there to play in the second half, drowning out OUr band, thought that was annoying.

They sat up there because Ohio gave the good seats to donors and people they were trying to cultivate for future donations.

We have to pay for the new field hockey field the 110 destroyed somehow.

Field Hockey plays on Pruitt Field.

Its synthetic turf.

Can't see how the 110 damaged, let alone destroyed it.

Ask anyone in the athletic department how the feel like the 110 treated the field hockey field which they practiced on.

While you're at it, ask how they feel about the 110. It's not pretty.

Seems to me this is just one more indication of a problem in the AD's office. Hopefully, the new AD will straighten things out.

Would you please expand on your post.

As I've posted several times, I design synthetic turf fields.

Other then marching on it, what could the 110 do that would damage synthetic
turf ?
And if they did damage it, why couldn't it be repaired ?

They've used fields I've designed for Drum Corps and marching band practices
and competitions.

Never had an issue except the temporary disturbance of the rubber infill.

I wasn't aware that the Marching 110 is part of the athletic department and therefore formerly under the direction of the (female) AD. When did this change take place???

They are not. But, if the AD's office has a problem with the 110 and doesn't realize that the 110 is a huge asset, that's a big problem. And, the blame goes directly to the AD herself. [I never once complained about the AD's gender; in fact, my top choice for her replacement was a female.]

I agree. If what's being reported is true -- that the AD's office badmouths the 110, it is truly unreal!

What if the 110 leaves debris on the field that creates player safety issues? Was that the AD's fault or perhaps the band doesn't understand the value of our athletes?

I would think the 110's staff is responsible to make sure the band cleans
up after practice.

I would also like to know exactly what is meant by "debris" .

If there is an issue, the 110's Director, should be notified to "clean up their act".

The statement made by Mr. Burner was that the folks in the AD's office badmouth the 110 in general, not just over the alleged trashing of the practice field. That's what I was reacting to. If the statement is true, it's a real problem.

No my implication was we maximized revenue dollars by eating the cost of the cheaper tickets and selling the higher priced ones and I was spot on with that assessment. Add in the ability to use that to grease the tracks for future donations, I’d say I hit the bullseye when I said the decision was about money. And it was also our decision and not one forced on us by the host school.
